Our Gardens - The Corner Garden

This very small garden replaced the cedars that once hid the cable and telephone boxes. It is close to the sidewalk and has always commanded attention from the neighborhood strollers. It has long been a spring bulb garden - initially filled with a variety of early spring to late spring daffodils; and now densely filled with tulips. Once the Pin Oak leaves out, this garden is shaded and becomes problematic for annals.
After a surprisingly successful year with Morning Glories on a trellis, we decided to give Clematis a try. The soil is cool and moist enough for the roots, but even at height the lack of afternoon sun is problematic for the blooms.
This garden is on a slope on the property line swale. In order to fight erosion, we planted a sizable clump of Rudbeckia at the highest point and daylilies staggered through the bed. This is holding the soil well.
The spring bulbs are beautiful and the rudbeckia bloom very well; but we still lack attractive features for mid-summer.
